Bradley Dack may not become an overnight star because of his goal against Newcastle United, mainly because it did not prove to be the winner, but it has at least highlighted what a sensational season he is having for Blackburn Rovers.

Dack’s clinical second-half header was the 20th goal he has either scored or created for Rovers this term, a phenomenal return for a midfielder at this stage of the campaign and he was a constant threat against the Magpies.

Having begun his career at Gillingham, Dack was released by Charlton Athletic as a young teenager and spent time on loan at Braintree Town during his formative years as a pro.

Rovers signed him for £750,000 in the summer of 2017 in order to help them win promotion, but the 25-year-old, who was named the best player in League One last year, has taken Championship football in his stride and there will be scouts flocking to Ewood Park to take a closer look at him in the coming weeks. His stats, 13 goals in 25 appearances, as an attacking midfielder who models his game on former England star Frank Lampard, demands it.

It is just a shame Rovers could not hold on for the win at the end of a hugely impressive performance on Tyneside, although given the fact Newcastle manager Rafa Benitez has little interest in the FA Cup again because of their Premier League position, Blackburn will probably be favourites to win the replay next week.

“It says everything that a couple of the boys were saying in the dressing room we’re disappointed getting a draw here,” said Dack. “It shows how well we played.

“All the pressure is still on Newcastle. It was down to them to beat us at home and that played into our hands a bit. It was brilliant for us. I can’t say much more. Of course, we can win the replay. I don’t know what side they’ll pick. I know they have Cardiff that weekend and their bread and butter is the league.”
